Stage 1 fire restrictions are set to go into effect on Monday, Aug. 14, and agencies’ concern for fires was underscored by a weekend of abandoned campfires that escaped fire rings and nearly sparked wildfires.

According to a joint news release from the U.S. Forest Service, BLM and Idaho Department of Lands, restrictions will begin at midnight on Aug. 14. David Collins, a fire prevention technician for the Sawtooth National Forest’s Ketchum Ranger District, said the restrictions are set to end Oct. 4, but ongoing analysis of wildfire fuels, which determines fire risk, may shorten or extend the restrictions’ duration.

The Stage 1 restrictions govern federal, state and private forest lands, as well as rangelands, roads and trails, in Blaine, Camas, Cassia, Custer, Elmore, Gooding, Jerome, Lincoln, Minidoka, Owyhee and Twin Falls counties, the release stated, with the exception of Forest Service lands in Cassia and Twin Falls counties.
